Purpose Driven Life
Are You Living a Purpose Driven Life? Are You Living or Existing?
What constitutes a purpose driven life?Jesus gave a parable where a master gave his servants certain “talents.” When he returned he asked his servants what they had done with what they had been given. Two had made various investments and gained interest. This gained their master’s favor. The third was afraid and buried the one talent he was given. The master was very displeased and took away the talent he had. Everyone has been given “talents.” What are you naturally good at? Your talent may be to turn conflict into positives; you may be an amazing chef, or a whiz at math. Natural talents are ones that you do automatically and enjoy doing. Writing may be your talent, art, making someone smile, etc. The possibilities are endless.
Living a purpose driven life
means using to the full the talents that have been given. Do you have influence? What are your assets? What “talents” do you have? If you are giving in to the belief that you have no talents, I encourage you to ask your friends, your family and your co-workers what they think your talents are. If you hear the same answer from two or more people explore that as your talent!
How Are You Using Your Gifts? The Choice is Yours.
There is no rule as to what you have to do to live a purpose driven life. No one can tell you what to do. You can learn your purpose and choose not to live it. You can choose to not know your purpose and just live anyway. I lived a fairly happy life before I knew my purpose, but once I had clarity and solidly knew it my life changed for the better. Those niggling little doubts and sense of un-fulfillment went away. As
my life choices were driven by my purpose
I became even happier, I am fulfilled and know the direction I am headed to live my dream life with purpose! I have that often elusive inner peace that comes with living in alignment with your purpose. If you're still wondering about living a purpose driven life, using those God given talents of yours, there is some guidance from the past. Solomon was a king who was famous for his wisdom and insight. In Psalm 72 of the Bible, he asked for many material things, tribute from other kings, dominion from sea to sea and gold. For what purpose? The purpose was "to deliver the needy when he crieth, and the poor also, and him that hath no helper." Buddah said, "Teach this triple truth to all: A generous heart, kind speech, and a life of service and compassion are the things which renew humanity."
Pastor Rick Warren who wrote the best selling book, The Purpose-Driven Life said, "The purpose of influence is to speak up for those who have no influence…Use what is in your hand to make the world a better place.""Those who have no influence" could be animals, other people, the earth itself. Living a purpose driven life could include taking care of children, inventing an energy saving machine, or starting a community garden. The variety of things that can be done is endless. Not everyone's purpose or dream is a "Mother Teresa" type purpose or dream, but every one counts! Each serves the greater good in its own way. Don't discount your value and talents and the part you can choose to play in this life. Just as the gifts you have been given are unique to you, what your purpose is in life is unique. But to live a purpose driven life you need to heed the advice of Buddah, "Your work is to discover your work and then with all your heart to give yourself to it." And my favorite quote from Woodrow Wilson; "You are not here to make a living. You are here to enrich the world… and you impoverish yourself if you forget the errand."
