Motivational Sayings
Most, if not everyone, has heard a motivational saying at some point in their lives. The question is what did you do with it? Is it something you pull out and use from time to time, or have you completely forgotten what that saying was? Motivational sayings, otherwise known as quotes, can be used in almost any setting. I’ve seen them used to get a point across, to help motivate and inspire people into action, to help keep a person focused on the goal and in daily affirmations to start your day off right. There are books and websites filled with motivational quotes, people have them posted in their office, stitched on pillows, etc. Why? What do these quotes do for you? The answer really depends on how you use them. If you just read the quote and think, “Ah. That’s nice” or “That’s interesting”, but then do nothing else with it, chances are it will do little for you. I like to use motivational sayings as points to
re-focus
with. They help me stay on track towards a desired goal. I also use them as daily affirmations to start my day in the right frame of mind, or to help shift myself when I get stuck in negative emotions. I have an angel bowl on my desk that holds Inspirational cards. Each card has an empowering, motivating statement on the front with a beautiful picture and the back a more lengthy statement to help you re-focus. Every morning before I begin work, I pull a card. Whatever it says, is what I focus on for the day. Several other people will come by to pull cards during the day. Every person is always surprised at how accurate the cards are for what is going on for them. To me, this is just another example of how the universe answers to whatever we are putting out there. If you don’t like what you’re getting, shift your focus!
When I get stuck in the “busy” work and begin to feel run down or discouraged, I look at one of my favorite quotes which I have posted on my wall. It is by Woodrow Wilson: “You are not here to make a living. You are here to enrich the world… and you impoverish yourself if you forget the errand.” This helps me to refocus on actions steps that are in alignment with
my purpose.
Another motivational saying I have posted is by Stanislaus I, “To believe with certainty, we must begin with doubting.” When I find myself giving into my fears and doubts and making decisions by them, this saying helps me to refocus. I’m not saying to ignore your doubter (that voice inside you that constantly tells you all the reasons why something can’t or won’t happen). Instead I would encourage you to create a relationship with your doubter. Have conversations with him/her.
Find out
what is really behind those doubts and fears. Your doubter is one of your own inner protectors and casting doubts and fears to keep you from getting hurt is his/her job. If you try to ignore it, the doubter will only get louder. I like to find out what all the potential obstacles are and whether they are based on a self-limiting belief I hold or some that requires strategy to get through it. Sometimes it’s a combination of both. We call those BS!
If obstacles are based on a self-limiting belief I get to work on changing that belief. Motivational sayings can play a very helpful role in this! If my belief is “I’m too old”, I would use the quote by Carl Sandburg, “The time for action is now. It’s never too late to do something.”. I would post this on my mirror so I would see it morning and night. I would read it out loud to myself. I would keep saying it and taking action steps towards what my dream was until I truly believed this new statement and embodied it. If my obstacle was I didn’t know how to start a business, it would require a strategy. I would then set goals to learn about what I needed to do start a business, talk to business owners, research it online, etc. I could even use the same quote by Carl Sandburg that I used for changing my belief that I was too old. Motivational sayings are a great tool and are easy to use to help keep yourself on track, moving towards your dream and living a life of purpose. I would be honored if you would share with me your favorite quote and how you’ve used it in your life. You just might see it in The Inner Gaze(ette)!
